Paris' queen of street cool packed her bags and boarded a short (emphasis on short) flight to the an assortment of sunny island destinations for spring break 2013. A healthy smattering of cotton and silk Hawaiian floral printed dresses that will look just at home staring at the clear blue shores of St. Tropez from a sparkling yacht as they will strutting their stuff on the streets of the Marais opened the show, guaranteed to fit right in among the suitcases of her legions of trendy devotees. As usual, with the contemporary queen of Paris' sidewalk cool, it's not so much the bits in and of themselves that excites and entices, but how you style them that counts. At Isabel Marant, whether the vibe is sweet and sassy or sexy and full-blown siren, plenty of attitude is the key must-have ingredient. The key is to clash colours and texture one on top of the other, but keeping things lightweight in the fabric. The word, I believe, is nonchalance. In the second half of the show, Hawaiian islands gave way to the Polynesian, with batik prints and Far Eastern exoticism thrown into the mix awash in a neutral palette with pops of red, channeling the bohemian goddess inside every Marant girl and offering a less jardiniîre alternative to for those not so keen on the tutti frutti. The one must-have accessory every Marant girl will be needing for the upcoming sultry summer whichever luxurious island locale she finds herself on? Pins that go on for miles, as each skirt was more thigh-skimming than the next, with shorts creeping into the realm of the ultra-micro before finally giving way to all-over printed one piece swimwear.
