PFW A/W 12-13: Miu Miu

By  March 07, 2012

A masculine vibe circa 1976 dominated the runways at Miu Miu which effectively closed Paris Fashion Week as British editors made a mad dash for the Eurostar, which, after the debacle of two days’ prior, is at last running as smoothly as the train that rolled into Louis Vuitton this morning. Jeweled in tone (think: sapphire, emerald, topaz and ruby…are we sensing a palette trend from Paris yet?), the suiting that largely presided over the collection was at once sharp yet relaxed and worn paired with floral wallpaper printed blouses and polished platform loafers.

Miuccia’s play-date with the suit saw a mixing of proportions long and short, elongating jackets and imbuing them with pink and purple stripes, psychedelic paisley and the occasional flash of velour which, in truth, only Miuccia Prada can send down a runway in a burnt orange accessorized with a kelly green bag and evoke chic instead of door-to-door salesman. As at Chanel, the models’ eyebrows were coated in pastel makeup and adorned with little crystal embellishments solidifying the “Statement” brow (and yes, that’s “Statement” with a capital “S”) as one of Fall 2012′s more avant garde beauty trends.

Disco ball mirrored smocks sheathed over masculine satin shirting closed the show with a vibrancy that saw Miuccia’s fellow designer, Marc Jacobs, in between this morning’s show and this evening’s soiree, tapping his foot to the punchy runway soundtrack and leaping up to embrace Miuccia in sartorial solidarity as the final crush glass-adorned short suited look boogied off the catwalk.
