After the rumours, hype, speculation and of course the dismissal of John Galliano, the world has been waiting with bated breaths for the unveiling of Christian Dior autumn/winter 2011. Ending today, a collection focusing on Dior’s heritage made its way down the Paris runway.
Acknowledging the events of the past week, Dior CEO Sidney Toledano opened the show with a respectful public apology that will mark a new chapter in the story of Dior. But like any performance, ‘the show must go on’ and it did in true luxury style.
Inspired by ‘dandyism’, ‘romance’ and ‘englishness’, pastel colours followed down the runway. Barely-there dresses in lace and tulle allured the eye whilst plum lips and charcoaled eyes upped the drama.
Daywear had all the airs and graces of eccentric England- silk bloomers, floppy felt hats and frock coats. The Dior girl has got dressed-up and she wants everyone to know.
Closing the show, collection and Galliano’s last chapter at Dior, the entire atelier team came out to take a bow. A moment in fashion history that will not be forgotten.
