NYFW S/S12: Michael Kors, J.Mendel & more

By  September 15, 2011

From abstract prints at Ports 1961 to Michael Kors’ wild side, day seven of New York Fashion Week offered brave dressing for SS 12. Unleashing billowing animal print maxis, razor sharp pleating and show- stopping neon the runways came alive with unique offerings.

The 10am start at Michael Kors did little to dissuade the fash pack from attending-albeit Carine Roitfeld, Rachel Zoe and Courtney Love hid behind dark glasses. Noting ‘Afriluxe’ as the inspiration for next season, models hit the runway clad in everything and anything that would be at home in a safari par- Khaki all in ones, tribalesque jewellery, animal print shifts, tie-dye, snakeskin and waist belts complete with ultlity pouches were all present.

In stark contrast J Mendel executed a cohesive collection of sleek silhouettes. Referencing ‘the old world glamour of regency style into a modern fashion aesthetic’, the coolness of this collection could almost cast a chilly air over SS 12. From gowns to cocktail to thigh baring splits and beyond, Giles Mendel hit runway success.
