NYFW S/S12: Diane von Furstenberg

By  September 12, 2011

To the soundtrack of Feeling Good by Nina Simone and, aptly, showing on September 11th, the message was clear. For Diane von Furstenberg, there is optimism and sunshine coming for spring. The show notes re-iterated the feeling using words like “renewed” and “resilient” and the vibrancy and colourful nature of the collection showed an equilibrium between the sunny optimism of a woman and her power.

The show’s title, “Beginnings”, the idea of starting afresh, is apt for a new season of summery essentials. For the angelic among us, a white pantsuit, loose lace dress and a clean palette was a perfect start to the show while the signature prints that followed in a myriad of colours, patterns and florals was a stronger statement. Gorgeous blouses, croppes blazers and dresses with sheer gauze and organza pleats were interspersed with relaxed trousers and city shorts. Pops of vibrant colour in the accessories complete the fabulous collection. A mixture of masculine and feminine, the collection was perfect for the girl who is strong but who wants to keep her girlish charm.
