NYFW S/S12: Victoria Beckham, DKNY, Derek Lam, Thakoon

By  September 12, 2011

The arrival of daughter Harper Seven did not hinder Victoria Beckham‘s spring/summer 2012 collection however inspiration from the designers new daughter was evident. Swapping the usually sharp and even sometimes fierce silhouette in favour of cocoon jackets and roomy styles, VB demonstrated her capability of working with geometry and volume. The hero of such came in the form of sports and collarless jackets.

Over at Donna Karan fashion took a different turn swapping the modern for Manhattan culture. Working patterns in all forms- abstract, geometric, stripes and florals to name a few- matching ensembles defied classic season styles, much like the hot-cold weather struggles we have suffered during summer 2011.

In contrast Derek Lam refused to acknowledge this summer’s cloudy skies as California dreaming oozed from the runway. Imagine block colours (yellow of course), knee length skirts, print-on-print and dresses that would be at home in a Palm Springs cocktail party.

Closing the day’s highlights Thakoon ready-to-wear catapulted sky blue to new heights. Seen on shirt dresses, a waist enhancing blazer and slightly carrot trousers, the favoured colour gave the collection an unusual appeal. Much like the cowboy hats that were seen with an array of outfits.
