Showing on day five of New York Fashion Week Carolina Herrera opened the collection with a fresh palette of spring. Unveiling a sweet sparrow print, a flowing maxi, buttoned-up shirt dress and even an aptly shaped tulip skirt looked at ease with the nature infused designs. Moving onto dramatic eveningwear, geometric detailing took centre stage as floor-length gowns came one-by-one down the runway.
An hour later, Preen spring/summer took a different turn as multi-coloured grids featured on tops, shirts, skirts and even cropped knits. But just in case this wasn’t enough fun, frill collars added kooky styling to styles.
Over at Rebecca Minkoff the crowds were buzzing as Leandra Medine aka the blogger behind The Man Reppeller made her runway debut. Dressed in a plunging tangerine blazer and thigh skimming shorts Medine looked everything but a repellent. As for the rest of the collection Minkoff’s everyday dressing signature was once again evident as sheer tanks and printed wide-legs came down the runway.
The second NYFW debut came via Victoria by Victoria Beckham- VB’s diffusion collection. Featuring frocks, frock and well more frocks, the designer’s latest collection loves shorter hemlines that swish above the knees. Continuing this fun, the preppy colour palette (bubble-gum pink, corally-reds and royal blue) will certainly be eye catching come SS12.
