The Clothes Whisperer reports from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York:
Charlotte Ronson this season delivered a collection guaranteed to delight her hipster fans. The ultimate in girly punk, Ronson (sister to Sam and Mark, Lilo’s ex was on the decks as usual), this season, Ronson looked to chunky knits, oversized layers and slashed army green leggings to cater to her punkette on the go. Ronson’s shows sometimes often feel more like a social affair (a gathering of the cool kids, the FROW is packed with Ronson family chums in lieu of top editors) than a corporate fashion show. Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill) was sitting pretty in the front row, and Ronson’s sisteer Annabel hit the runway (again, see last season) to resounding applause.
Models’ hair was closely braided to her scalps on one side, simulating the trendy side-shave–a haircut, whilst it worked on Ronson’s gazelles and Rihanna, should probably never ever be attempted by mere mortals. The ample goody bag only available in the front row also (the most jam-packed so far this week) also suggests that this is a gathering of good tidings amongst friends, as the Ronson clan are wont to share their toys with their buds.
Military greens, greys and rust camels made up the demure yet lighter toned color palette (nobody wear black in LA). Slouchy peacoats, snug knit caps (carried over from Spring/Summer) and this season’s fast emerging silhouette du jour, the stovepipe, were rife in the easy-to-wear collection. Ronson’s clothes are not about making a statement, nor are they about churning out sexy ripe-for-editorial or ready-for-red-carpet flashy items, it’s about a young girl making clothes for herself and people just like her, i.e. her friends.
