MFW S/S12: Frankie Morello

By  September 25, 2011

Frankie Morello design duo Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti (think: the J.C. Castelbajac of Milan…times two) did what they did best yesterday, that is, showed a tongue-in-cheek poppy collection characterized, first and foremost by fun. Catering to a blogger-filled front row, the likes of the Chic Muse, Prince Pelayo and local Blonde Salade busily feasting their SLR’s on the richness of the quirk coming down the runway, this season, it was off to tour bella Italia.

Models emerging one by one adorned with Colosseums or Venician gondolas perched atop their heads as an undeniably kitschy-cool fascinator, David’s legendary six pack smiling up from a tee-shirt or the Leaning Tower of Pisa printed down one side of a jumpsuit. In a rather innovative move, souvenir fans were folded into a mini-pleated strapless cocktail dress.

To drive home the point, that not only are were on an Italian adventure, but in fact of a particularly Fellini vintage were the little cameras clutched in models’ hands like accessories. The only thing missing was the Vespa.
