NYFW S/S12: Marchesa

By  September 15, 2011

Simply stunning as usual, the Marchesa show hit a high note as soon as the first look hit the runway, worn by none other than Karen Elson. In a vintage-looking flapper dress with swinging beads, it was stunning red carpet glamour from start to finish. If there is something this label, fronted by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, does best, it is high voltage glamour. And it was no different for SS/12.

Instead of the usual presentation, this season the duo held a catwalk show and, with all the usual signature moves from them: beautiful fabrics, whimsical and romantic colours, tulle, silver beading and chiffon that simply floats as the models move.

Highlights included sheer panelling, dazzling fish embroidery inspired by the Russian artist Ilya Repin’s painting¬†Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom, and fringe inspired by Ernst Haeckel’s drawings of jellyfish. Finishing the show was the gorgeous Karolina Kurkova in a stunning silver beaded dress with a mermaid tail of fringing that dazzled as she walked.
