LFW S/S12: Aquascutum

By  September 20, 2011

We were all excited to see what Joanna Sykes had in store for heritage brand Aquascutum and, inside the ballroom at the achingly hip Corinthia hotel, we weren’t disappointed.

The house is famous for its trenches and Sykes ensured the die-hard fans had luxurious leather versions, stunning silk creations and with lapels of plastic ( a big trend for next season). Giving the brand a modern twist there were sheer blouses and little tees, neon yellow dresses that draped beautifully and clung in all the right places  while a little black lace dress looked gorgeously delicate teamed with one of the patent beige bags.

The accessories are bound to be a big hit next spring; beach bags with rope handles and duffle shapes, the slicked back hair and minimal make-up spoke of the girl who has just gotten dressed and walking back from the pool.

Aware – as other British designers appear to be this season – of the weather, jackets were plentiful. An off-white tuxedo suit with palazzo pants were stunning while boxy cropped jackets were perfect slung over a little dress or matching mini skirt.

It was the myriad of trenches in an array of fabrics that made  the collection so perfect. Totally feminine, sophisticated but fashion forward, Sykes has updated the Aquascutum brand to make it attractive to the younger crowd, the trench being updated in the way the designer knows how – luxury, luxury, luxury.
