The ever stylish American actress Jennifer Lawrence has just started shooting for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second from the from the highly acclaimed franchise. But you won’t have to wait very long to see this Oscar Nominated starlet on the big screen as she is starring alongside Elisabeth Shue in Mark Tonderai’s thriller House at the End of the Street - a spine tingling thriller directed by Mark Tonderai. As a horror fan, I for one, cannot wait!
Having recieved no formal acting training, it was her leading role in Independent Film, Winter’s Bone, which won best picture at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010, that is generally cited as her breakout performance. She portrays Ree Dolly, a seventeen-year-old in the Ozark Mountains who cares for her mentally ill mother and her younger brother and sister. Ree then discovers that her father put their house and land up as a bond for a court appearance before he disappeared, and the family now faces eviction. Her performance was highly acclaimed by film critics, and David Denby, writing in The New Yorker, said “the movie would be unimaginable with anyone less charismatic playing Ree.”
As I mentioned, Lawrence received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2011 – becoming the second-youngest actress to date to be nominated for the category, and graced the red carpet like a pro, looking stunning in a red hot strapless Christian Dior Haute Couture dress, and black Dior shoes. She also accrued nominations from the Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Satellite Awards among others. Not bad for a newcomer!
At last year’s London Film Festival I enjoyed Lawrence’s supporting performance in the independent film Like Crazy, and then, showing her versatility, she took on a Hollywood blockbuster X-Men: First Class appearing as shape-shifting villain Mystique (a younger version of the character played by Rebecca Romijn in earlier X-Men films) - a role that she will be reprising this role again in the sequel filming early 2013.
A impressive career in such a short time! I for one am a big fan of her work, and particularly enjoyed her impressive portryal as Katniss in The Hunger Games, and quite simply cannot wait for Catching Fire! We at Glam wish her luck with filming the next installment, and in the meantime will be straight down the cinema for the opening of House at the End of the Street! Out in cinemas on 21st September 2012.
