Glam Visits Ashdown Park

By  October 27, 2011

Where better to get in the festive spirit than a country hotel that is perfect for relaxing with the family in front of a roaring fire, frolicking in the pool or heading into Winnie the Pooh’s wood for hikes. Ashdown Park is offering a weekly countdown of Christmas offers to ensure you get the best deal for your holiday treat. With nine weeks to go, this week Elite Hotels is offering guests who book a three night Christmas House Party during the week of 22nd October a Spa or Golf Day for two which includes lunch and one treatment each plus golf (must be taken before 30.06.12.)

We headed to Ashdown Park for an overnight stay to see what it had to offer and, with the likes of Tom Cruise and John Travolta jetting in the weekend before, we felt in good company. Immediately at seeing the hotel you feel like you have gone back in time. Built in 1867, the house has been a family home as well as a convent before being turned into a luxury hotel in the nineties. Set amid Ashdown Forest, it is fabled that A.A Milne was inspired by the woodland walks here for the Hundred Acre Wood in the Winnie the Pooh stories. Today, with hikes mapped out for guests, families are still enjoying the fabulous grounds and walks that are beautifully tended and lots of fun.

When you book one of the 106 bedrooms and suites, choose between a choice of eight types, all  bespoke with period features – some with romantic four-poster beds and others more practical catering for you to bring your family and even your dog! We had the Lake room, one of the rooms in the main house which had fabulous view to the lake and forest in the distance; a world away from London. The Fairways suites located next to the Country Club look out onto the golf range and spa, perfect for those travelling to play golf or with canine guests.

After enjoying afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and cake, we headed out to the grounds for a peek at the secret garden and lake before heading to the spa for a facial and a look around the country club. This probably isn’t the hotel to head to for a quiet spa weekend, it is more child and family friendly as well as catering for local members who come for treatments or to play golf, but the treatment was fabulous, the staff lovely and it is perfect for taking the family for a splash in the pool while you sit and watch in the jacuzzi. The Revitalise Spa now offers Kerstin Florian treatments that use natural elements and ingredients. The facial included a gentle exfoliating peel to remove dull surface skin cells, a luxurious massage, deep-cleansing masque and botanical extracts to rejuvenate and nourish the skin. 55 minutes - £65.00

A more adult friendly part of the hotel is the Anderida Restaurant, popular with guests and locals as being one of the best restaurants in Forest Row. Opulent and grand, gentlemen are asked to wear ties and the sommelier chooses the best wine to complement your food, of which the menu is created with local and fresh ingredients. We started with potato and leek soup and the Loch Duart Smoked Salmon followed by the Chateaubriand for Two, which was carved at the table and came with thick cut chips, thyme roasted vine tomatoes, grilled field mushrooms, tempura Onion Rings and Sauce Béarnaise. Totally delicious! Being to full for dessert was a shame as the cheese trolley looked divine as did the bitter chocolate fondant. The restaurant is popular for Sunday Roasts as well so we are sure Christmas dinner is amazing.

Book now for a festive treat and to check it out yourself before it gets booked up…
