Arriving to the babble of the River Maine and rolling Ballymena countryside, Glam had an inkling the Galgorm Resort and Spa was about to offer the Irish stay we been hankering after. Upon departure two days later we were not disappointed.
Located just 30 minutes outside of Belfast the Galgorm resort is safely tucked away from bustling city life in 163 acres of woodland. A mixture of old and new architecture, the hotel profits from recent expansions but still remaining sympathetic to the beautiful landscape and heritage. The best place to experience this is of course in the famous thermal spa.
Set towards the back of the resort the spa offers seven sleek treatment rooms, an extensive pampering menu and ‘The Thermal Spa Experience’- a journey of rejuvenation and relaxation-experienced through seven cold to hot experiences. For those needing a little spa guidance there’s a handy step-by-step guide to ensure maximum spa bliss is achieved.
Designed to allow the outdoors in the idyllic scenery is never far from sight which, is perfectly appreciated from the heated beds. Or alternatively from within the bubbling outdoor hot tub. Here the chill of the Irish air against the warmth of the water makes for a truly invigorating moment.
Back inside the spa team are on hand to ensure your journey of relaxation never ceases. Skilled in an array of pampering options- Eve Lom facials, pristine manis and pedis, Hammam treatments, reflexology to name four- you could easily spend a week here enjoying treatment after treatment. But we’d suggest starting with the Mineral Mud Serail (£35 for 40mins)- an instant top-to-toe cleanse for stressed skin- followed by an Intensive Muscle Release Massage (£80). The latter is given a personal touch to ensure your experience matches your wishes.
Outside of the spa the hotel continues to impress. The seventy-five spacious rooms combine sumptuous decor with modern amenities. We’d suggest upgrading to a junior suite where you’ll find a deep slipper bath that beckons to be filled with bubbles.
To make full use of the stunning landscape- such a treat for city dwellers- the hotel offers mountain bikes for use. Just pop to the spa where you can rent free of charge and set off for the bluebell woods. Or alternatively don your hat and scarf and take a hike to the local town 3 miles away.
Much like a cherry topping the staff at the Galgorm add the finishing touch- attentive, caring and eager to please.
Would we return? In a flash!
