Former Sex And The City actress Cynthia Nixon has signed on to star in Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit on Broadway in New York City.
Nixon will take on the lead role of the cancer-stricken poetry professor who undergoes experimental treatment for the illness. The Margaret Edison penned production will begin performances at the beginning of next year.
The limited engagement will mark Nixon’s return to Broadway after a 5 year break, previously winning herself a Tony Award for her part in 2006’s Rabbit Hole and a nomination for Indiscretions in 1995.
Wit will open for previews at the Manhattan Theatre Club on January 5th 2012 and official open on January 26th. The role has previously been played by British actress Emma Thompson so Cynthia Nixon has big shoes to fill.
