If you are a Burn Notice fan-- (USA Network), you will want to get the Season 2 of this spy + twisted humor series starring Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar and Bruce Campbell.
Buying the Season 2 set is a worthwhile venture because Season 2 was split because of the writer's strike and thus the series came to an abrupt end just as the strike started and wrapped up again in January with a small batch of episodes that were to close the gap.
This season 2 DVD follows Westen as he takes on all new death-defying assignments in hopes of getting closer to his new employers, the people that were possibly responsible for his ousting. Joining the cast this season is Tricia Helfer ("Battlestar Gallactica") as Carla, the woman who may be behind Michael's "burn notice."
Gabrielle Anwar
Trica Helfer (Carla)

Getting up in a not so familiar location often makes for interesting times. However getting up in a hotel room where the lighting is dim (at best) and almost impossible to put on make-up makes one definitely cranky. While the Hotel Griffin is all about eco-friendly and being green, it's also about not making one "look green" when they put on makeup.
San Francisco Ferry Building interior.. (photos of the Ferry Building courtesy of www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com
So instead of getting the knickers in a twist, we head out to the virtually across the street Ferry Building for the Farmer's Market-- which at 9 AM is already packed with people and is fun fun FUN!! This market is only done on Tuesday and Saturdays for restaurants and foodies to pick up fresh and organic provisions as well as stop and get a bite to eat at the really incredible variety of restaurants and take-out places within the Ferry Building.
Farmers Market ( photos of the Ferry Building courtesy of www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com )
Inside the building is also hot as their are food and coffee stalls and places with real storefronts.
Here's a sampling of the stuff we saw! We did do a chunk of shopping-- mostly tasting and smelling unique fragrances, berries, syrups and chutneys. What was really cool was the 6 pack of flavored olive oils. I could not pass that up.
Sciabica's Gift Pack of 6 flavored oils.. YUM!!
Mushrooms. Wish I could have bought these-- but they weren't going to last in the heat of that weekend.
Shitakis looked awesome too.
How about this one? Do you know what this is?
Besides vegetables, I did take a few other shots:
Gorgeous tulips that I have 2 shots of:
Anything this pretty deserved a couple of shots.
Next up was my favorite place-- and I spent serious money at Rechiutti buying chocolate. They had a promotion of spend over $45 and get a free trio of chocolate bars.
I of course promptly bought enought stuff to get those free bars. I bought the
Fleur de Sel Caramel box (which I have yet to finish)
and I bought this newer launch product --
The Asphalt Jungle Mix-- Burnt Caramel Hazelnuts & Burnt Caramel Almonds, Cherries Two Ways and Peanut Butter Pearls.
If you check the prices, you will note that it doesn't make quite the $45-- but I did buy more.... even ate some on the way to the airport the next day.. however that was not enough for the TSA.. and that's for another post!
Across the street from the Ferry Building was an "art fair" that I gather is regular staple selling various crafts, jewelry and fashion. Some was really good but a lot of things were over-priced or maybe I just wasn't finding the right thing to give me the shopping buzz.
However it wasn't far from this very cool sculpture that I shot:
One can say it's a real "statement" piece..
This is a detail of part of the sculpture. By the time I shot this I was losing light quickly.
This is the end of part 3. I will have about 3 more posts to go: the Fisherman's Wharf, a really great walk with lots of photos I took and then meeting up with friends for coffee at a famous coffee house in North Beach after having lunch. Then the infamous wrap-up of the flight home debacle.

Digging into the upcoming holiday? Do you have Friday off? Whether or not you do, you need to hear *this podcast" about what to make for insanely great drinks for the guests you are having over. (oh, you mean you haven't invited them yet? Better get started!). No matter if you have 2, 4, 24 or 100 people showing up, there's no reason not to have a great drink to put the icing on your event. It's economical to entertain at home and if you provide the location and the cocktails, ask others to bring an appetizer and hang out having a great holiday weekend. It's definitely time to celebrate.
David Brogan of Signature David
Helping out to give you some holiday cocktail inspiration is Signature David's David Brogan who has a website and an amazing blog that's chock full of great recipes and ideas.
Aquatini
Here's the recipe for this amazing cocktail:
In a large pitcher, combine
1/3 of a 750 ml of vodka, (p.i.n.k. vodka? or you might try 3 Olives flavored vodkas). The citrus, mango or pomegranite flavors would rock-- or get crazy and try the raspberry or cherry.
8 oz Dekuyper Island Blue Pucker,
8 oz white cranberry juice,
3 oz pineapple juice,
3 oz sour mix and
3 oz of Cointreau over ice.
Stir and serve.
Garnish with pineapple rings and drizzle the top of the cocktail with Blue Curacao liqueur.
p.i.n.k. Watermelon
1/3 750 ml bottle of p.i.n.k. vodka ( or try the 3 Olives Watermelon Vodka!! Who would have thought of that?)
8 oz watermelon liqueur
4 oz triple sec
4 oz fresh lime juice
8 oz sprite
On the lime juice, don't use those squeeze containers or bottle juice. If you can't handle squeezing that many limes, here's the BEST lemon, orange and blood orange juice around (and if you check with them you will find lime juice too)
Volcano Lemon and Lime Burst Juicesare organic and Italian and TASTY!!
Combine ingredients in a pitcher filled half way with ice and stir.
Garnish with watermelon balls placed inside the drink.
Podcast with Signature David's David Broganp.i.n.k. Lemonade
1/3 750 ml bottle of p.i.n.k. vodka
20 oz of lemonade
4 oz of Cointreau
Suggestion: Add a few drops of Chambord or Pama liqueur or Pama Juice to this recipe for a brighter color.
Combine ingredients in a pitcher ffilled half way with ice and stir. Garnish with lemon and lime wheels placed randomly in the pitcher. For added fun, use real pink lemonade and drizzle chambord into the bottom of each glass when poured.

O.N.E. Coconut Water is a new brand that I had seen running around LA events (read the MTV and other parties) as well as my natural foods stores. This is an unusually healthy drink of rich coconut water that's very healthy and hydrating. Dermatologists tell us that we are dehydrated and your body can tell you it is but what do you drink besides water that leeches out the hydration you are trying to take in (read tea, sodas and coffee plus various foods that are salty). Try O.N.E because it's light, healthy, low in sugar, and very interesting.
What is O.N.E.?
O.N.E is 100% natural coconut water, which is the water inside a young green coconut. It is naturally filtered for nine months through the dense fibers of the coconut creating a nutritious, pure and refreshing isotonic beverage. O.N.E. is 100% natural and has five essential electrolytes, more potassium than a banana, no added sugars, no fat, no cholesterol and no preservatives. O.N.E. is not the milk that is derived from the meat of the older brown coconuts. O.N.E. promotes the sustainability of the Amazon Rainforest and is packaged in the most environmentally friendly packaging available today - Tetra Pak.
What can it do for you? O.N.E Water is:
high in potassium, fat free, cholesterol free, and low in acidity, and contains no sugar
It does have five essential electrolytes--potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, and phosphorous that will keep your body functioning at optimal levels.
O.N.E. is a natural isotonic beverage. It contains similar levels of electrolytes as those found in human blood--which means it enters the blood stream faster and becomes effective extremely quickly.
O.N.E. promotes smoother, more hydrated skin. ( did you read Dr. Murad's book about the importance of hydration? Skincare can't do it all. Sometimes good skin comes from the inside out-- meaning what you put in your body is important to how you look). It provides effective oral rehydration, and keeps the body cool.
O.N.E. is excellent for replacing lost electrolytes due to exercise and/or illness. ( this would be better than energy drinks or beverages like Gatorade for those suffering from the flu or other similar illnesses)
I had a chance to taste (and even bought more) of the O.N.E. Coconut Water and also the O.N.E Flavored Water Drinks like Coffee Berry, Amazon Acai and more.
Channel 13 Talks about Coconut Water in Santa Monica
The followiing beverages are out now:
Plain O.N.E. Coconut waterO.N.E. Amazon Aai -- with a bit of acerola cherry and has 30 times the anti-oxidant effects of red wine. Plus it tastes great!
O.N.E. Cashew Juice a slightly fruity tasting drink. Bet you didn't know that cashews aren't nuts but actual fruits!!
O.N.E. Coffee Fruit a slight coffee taste with the caffeine of a cup of tea blended with a strawberry flavor and has antioxidants called phenolic acids.
O.N.E. Water-- 100% spring water where 100% of the net proceeds go to non-profit organizations. This is currently available and is just spring water with the same eco-friendly packaging but with a charitable twist.
There will be a new drink called O.N.E. Water with a splash that will be out late summer (think latter August).
You can buy this at amazon.com ONENaturalExperience.com
or you can find this at major supermarkets and Whole Foods markets.

The Fourth of July would not be a holiday without some special cocktails and I have several over the next few days. So keep your eyes peeled since this is a longer holiday weekend. Most of you have at least half of today off -- so the morning is starting off with cocktails every day through Sunday- each day featuring a different spirit including Hennessy
For 4th of July specials, who doesn't want a Mojito? Tweak yours and make yours different thanks to Hennessy Cognac. Smooth as silk and delightfully refreshing!
Recipe:
1 oz. Hennessy,
oz. fresh lime juice,
oz. simple syrup,
8-10 fresh mint leaves.
Muddle ingredients in a highball glass, fill with ice and stir. Finish with a splash of soda water.
If you want a pitcher of these babies (a smarter move by far), then muddle the mint (more leaves) and multiply the recipe by the number of drinks you need. Simple syrup can be easily made or purchased and you will use up the cognac and it will save you from spending all your time bartending. You could by Stirrings for the mix and save a lot of time-- but don't forget the mint leaves! It's important.
Get retro a la Mad Men and get into the Sidecar cocktail. This standard walks to a different beat with Hennessy cognac!!
Recipe:
1 oz. Hennessy,
oz. Grand Marnier,
oz. fresh lemon juice.
Shake and strain in a sugar-rimmed cocktail glass.
Fast and easy, this one is simple to make up in a pitcher and have the glasses pre-dipped in sugar!!
Cut to the chase and get spicy-- as in Hennessy Ginger Cocktail. Served on the rocks, tall, martini glass or made by the pitcher, this is a "not so sweet" drink that will have your guests sticking around for a "l o n g" time-- because it's great with food!
Recipe:
1 oz. Hennessy,
1 dash of angostura bitters (optional),
top with ginger ale in a highball glass filled with ice.
For ease in summer parties, make these up by the pitcher!!
